Taktshang is the most famous monasteries in Bhutan . It hangs on a cliff at 3120 meters (10,200 feet), about 700 meters (2300 feet) above the bottom of Paro valley, about 10 km from the town of Paro district. Famous visitors have Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the 17th century and Milarepa. The name means "Tiger's nest", according to legend, Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew there for the back of a tiger. The monastery includes seven temples which are all gone. The monastery suffered several blazes and is a recent restoration. Going to the monastery is on foot or by mule.
